The scope of the Soundtest.FM Wiki is the content that you can expect to find covered in its articles.
Games
Video games fall under the Game namespace. All games included must be a computer, arcade, or console-based video game. Any games released for a known video game console or made by a known developer or publisher are welcome. Indie games and non-commercial games can be included if they meet additional criteria.
Note that the following factors do not affect a game's inclusion:
- What language it is in. The game's language does not matter as long as the wiki article is in English.
- Whether it is still available. Games that were canceled but exist as prototypes (e.g. Star Fox 2) are still legitimate games, as are titles available exclusively for a now defunct service such as Sega Channel or the Satellaview. Even games that fulfill the criteria but are now completely unplayable are still valid for inclusion here.
- How popular it is or was. Even if hardly anybody has heard of the game, if it sufficiently fulfills the above criteria it is valid for inclusion. This includes all titles produced by recognized companies. Likewise, a game that only receives short-term viral promotion doesn't guarantee inclusion if none of the other requirements are met.
The following are not covered:
- Board games such as Monopoly and card games such as UNO are only covered if they have an electronic equivalent.
- Online virtual communities or social networking sites (e.g. Second Life or Habbo Hotel).
- Cancelled games that were never playable in any way, unless information related to its music and audio has been released.
Indie games
There are numerous marketplaces for indie games providing a commercial release for these games. These are however excluded from scope unless they have received extensive 3rd-party coverage.
Non-commercial, non-notable games
Due to the ease of making and distributing flash, homebrew, ROM hacks and game mods, as well as the sheer number of them, these lesser known or smaller games are not covered.
Albums
Albums fall under the Album namespace. Any album that contains music originating or deriving from a video game that meets the game coverage requirements can be covered.
Note that the following factors do not affect an album's inclusion:
- What language it is in. The album's language does not matter as long as the wiki article is in English.
- Whether it is still available. Albums available exclusively for a now defunct service such as Google Play Music, Beats Music or Groove Music are still covered. Even albums that fulfill the criteria but are now completely unplayable are still valid for inclusion here.
- Media format. CD, vinyl record, cassette, streaming service, it doesn't matter.
The following are not covered:
- bootleg releases
Tracks
Tracks fall under the Track namespace. Any track that originates from a video game that meets the game coverage criteria can be covered. Tracks that appear in a video game but do not originate from it (like licensed music in a rhythm game) can be covered, but only in context to its use in video games. A track appearing in other media that derives from a video game-originating track (like a remix in a movie) can be covered.
Contributors
Contributors fall under the Contributor namespace. Any person or group that has contributed toward a video game, album, or track (that meets its own coverage criteria) in some way related to music or audio engineering is covered.
